Un vardøger, también conocido como vardyvle o vardyger, es un espíritu predecesor en el folclore escandinavo.[1]
Las historias suelen incluir ejemplos que son básicamente déjà vu inversos, donde un espíritu con los pasos, voz, aroma o apariencia y, por lo general, el aspecto general de un sujeto le precede en un lugar o actividad, haciendo que los testigos crean que han visto u oído a la persona real antes de que esta llegue. Tiene similitudes con el doppelgänger, pero con una connotación menos siniestra. Se ha comparado con un doble fantasma o una forma de bilocación. En el folclore finlandés, el concepto es conocido como etiäinen.
Etimología[]
Vardøgr es una palabra noruega definida como "sonido o visión premonitoria antes de que una persona llegue". La palabra vardøger probablemente derive del nórdico antiguo varðhygi, consistiendo en los elementos vǫrð, "guardia, vigilante" y hugr, "mente" o "alma". Originalmente, vardøger se consideraba un fylgja, un tipo de espíritu guardián.[2]
